A husband-and-wife-run country pub in the small West Wales village of Gorsgoch is celebrating an extraordinary run of success after receiving recognition in three separate business and hospitality awards competitions.
Tafarn Cefn Hafod, run by husband-and-wife team Sean and Charlotte Emanuel, has been named a finalist for Best Restaurant at The UK Small Business Awards 2026, representing West Wales in the national competition.
The announcement follows two further achievements for the independently run village pub:
Wales Prestige Awards 2027/28 — Winner, Best Gastro Pub of the Year.
Food Awards Wales 2026 — Finalist, Gastro Pub of the Year.
The UK Small Business Awards 2026 — Finalist, Best Restaurant, representing West Wales.
The recognition is particularly significant for a small rural hospitality business operated primarily by just two people.
Sean runs the kitchen as head chef, while his wife Charlotte manages the front of house. Together, they have established Tafarn Cefn Hafod as a destination for freshly prepared food, traditional hospitality and community gatherings.
The pub has also become an important meeting place for the surrounding rural community, hosting local organisations, social events and regular dining occasions.
Speaking about the recent achievements, Sean said:
“It’s difficult to put into words just how much this means to us. We work incredibly hard, and being recognised across three different awards competitions in such a short space of time is something we never expected.
“To have our little village pub recognised not only in Wales but now in a UK-wide Best Restaurant category is absolutely incredible.
“We’re especially proud to be representing West Wales. There are so many fantastic hospitality businesses across the country, and to see Tafarn Cefn Hafod amongst them means the world to us.
“We also want to thank our customers and our local community. Their continued support, recommendations and encouragement are a huge part of why we’re able to do what we do.”
The Food Awards Wales ceremony takes place on 30 November 2026, while the UK Small Business Awards will conclude later in December.
For Sean and Charlotte, the recognition is not simply about trophies or titles, but about seeing the hard work behind a small, independently operated countryside business acknowledged on a wider stage.
