A call for permission for a public container storage site at an existing car parking facility near Pembroke Dock has been lodged with county planners.
In an application to Pembrokeshire County Council, Mr and Ms Kilcoyne and Creswell, through agent Preseli Planning Ltd, seek permission for the siting of storage containers at Twin Oaks, just off the A477 London Road, near Pembroke Dock.
A supporting statement says: “The application seeks permission to site 10 containers to serve as a storage facility for public use. The application site is located to the east of the Pembroke Dock settlement and is linked via the A477 trunk road and a pedestrian link. The site forms an existing hard standing car parking facility.”
It says alternate sites have been viewed in the Pembroke Dock area; the costs of the commercial units varying between £250,000 and over £3 million.
“These values would not be financially viable for the proposed small scale and low intensity proposal.
“Furthermore, the available sites are not suitable as they comprise of building structures with infrastructure, whereas the application site does not require a building. They therefore provide unsuitable and unrealistic opportunities, and no suitable sites are currently available.”
It says, with regard to highway safety, parking spaces and a turning head and allocated unloading area would be provided.
It adds: “There is sufficient area in the site to allow visitors to the access and manoeuvrer within the site in a safe manner and unload vehicles.
“The access from the highway would remain unchanged and the proposal is not considered to form an intensification of the use compared to the authorised car park facility.”
The application will be considered by planners at a later date.
