Plaid Cymru says timetables must be coordinated and routes designed around the journeys people actually need to make.
Bus services connecting communities in the Gwendraeth Valley to Llanelli would be overhauled under Plaid Cymru’s plans for an integrated national transport network.
The party’s manifesto commits to better coordination between bus and rail timetables, smarter ticketing and route design built around real journey patterns – not operator convenience.
For residents in Kidwelly, Trimsaran, Carway and surrounding villages, the problem is often not the absence of a bus but the gap between one service and the next. Poorly timed connections and routes that do not align with school, work or appointment hours leave passengers stranded mid-journey or force them to travel out of their way for a GP appointment.
Plaid says fixing this patchwork of separate routes means treating buses as part of a single, coherent network – with timetables that connect properly to rail services and schedules designed around schools, colleges, workplaces and health services.
Mari Arthur, Plaid Cymru candidate for Sir Gaerfyrddin, said:
“If the bus gets you to Llanelli but not in time for your shift, your appointment or your class, then the service isn’t working for you.
“Our plan is simple: timetables that connect, routes that reflect how people actually live, and a transport system that works as one network – not a set of disconnected parts.
“For communities along the Gwendraeth Valley, that would mean a real, usable public transport link into Llanelli and beyond.”
