‘Dreams’ by Fleetwood Mac has been named the ultimate dinner party song, according to new research from Lakeland – https://www.lakeland.co.uk/inspiration/the-ultimate-dinner-party-playlist/
When you’re planning a dinner party, your playlist can be just as important as your menu. Recent studies have even shown that the right background music can increase our enjoyment of food by up to 60%. So, which songs should be on your playlist for the perfect dinner party?
To find out, Lakeland analysed over 2,000 playlists on Spotify, containing almost 250,000 different tracks.
Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ took the top spot, featuring in 134 different dinner party playlists. Van Morrison’s ‘Into The Mystic’ came in second place, with 74 appearances, followed by Corinne Bailey Rae’s ‘Put Your Records On’, which showed up in 69 playlists.

Van Morrison came in second place with 5 songs, while Elton John, Harry Styles and Leon Bridges all had 4 tracks in the top 100.

Despite appearances from modern artists like Harry Styles, Leon Bridges and Frank Ocean, it seems people are looking to the past for their perfect dinner party playlist. 31% of the top 100 most popular songs came from thee 1970s, compared to just 6% from the 2020s. And as for genres, R&B was the most popular, making up 20% of the top 100, followed by folk rock with 16%.
