There are a lot of things that one should consider when brainstorming the concept and then creating a marketing campaign. While you may have no control whatsoever over some of these factors, as they are usually external, you should make sure that you have full control over the internal ones. Besides this, a good and relevant marketing campaign should not only meet your goals but also surpass them.

This is why it is so important to stay connected to everything around you and by this we don’t only mean marketing-related trends. Take your computer and look outside of your bubble and see where the world is heading to. It’s important to identify the needs of the people of today and who your potential new clients might be. Once that is done, your aim should be to create a campaign that will convince them to join your boat. We know that this is easier said than done. This is precisely why, in this article, we will punctually discuss how to stay relevant in this day and age by creating fresh and impactful marketing campaigns. Here we go!

Start planning

This is the most important part of your potential future marketing campaign because the said campaign wouldn’t exist without it. Think of it as a house with a strong foundation. If it’s sturdy enough it will not fall during the first winter. Obviously, when this is achieved, that house might need to be consolidated if you won’t want it to fall during the following winter.

Establish the purpose of your future campaign

There is one single question that you should try and provide the answer to at this point. That question is “why?” Why do you want to do this? What should this campaign bring in terms of your business? These are two of the most important answers that you need to have during the planning stage of your campaign.

Try to gather your team and come up with potential goals for your campaign. Allow everyone to say their opinion and make a list of purposes. Some of those could include the need to promote something new, to increase engagement, and brand awareness, to promote an upcoming event, or simply increase the revenue. There is nothing wrong with wanting to accomplish all of the above at the same time with your campaign. This may seem achievable but, in reality, it’s extremely difficult and not helpful at all.

The so-called SMART methodology could be a good helper in this case. In order for this system to work, you need to establish a set of criteria and compare your goals against them. See where that takes you.

How do you measure success?

Then you should ask yourself what way of measuring the potential success of the campaign would be the best? Well, as a tip, it can help connect to your initial goal. For example, if you want to advertise an event, see how many attendants it will have. If you want to promote a new product or service, look at the sales numbers. If for you, success means money, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, then you have your answer.

What about your target audience?

Once more, determining the answer to this question might mean posing even more questions. For example, do you want to bring in new clients or keep the old ones interested? What interests do these people have? What social media platforms do they use? This stage is very important in the creation of your buyer persona. By establishing your ideal client’s various characteristics (like their job, age, sex, education, marital status, etc) it will be easier to have your target audience clearly in your head.

Establish your campaign budget

Last but not least, the budget that your campaign will have is extremely important because it can offer your freedom or limit you. This stage depends on each business but the golden rule is to always keep your budget realistic.

Start the campaign distribution

This stage is extremely important because it contains the actual development of your marketing campaign. Here are some useful tips:

Pick your communication channels

You cannot create a marketing campaign and simply throw it into the Universe. You need to choose what channels it is going to develop on and reach the audience. See where your usual content performs the best and start from there. The PESO methodology might also help at this stage of the campaign. P stands for paid, E for earned, S for shared, and O for owned. These are groups that can help you grasp a better understanding of how your marketing efforts do b looking at them from various perspectives.

The timeline matters a lot

Another important thing that you need to take care of in planning your campaign is its timeline. The best idea would be to create some sort of calendar to keep track of the development and outcome of your efforts. Even better, a marketing calendar for each channel that you will use could be even more useful.

For this, you can use tools like Google Calendars, spreadsheets, or even physical calendars. There are also a plethora of tools that offer specialized marketing calendars. The only thing left now is to carefully execute your marketing campaign keeping track of it and taking into account each aforementioned step.

The execution

The way you do that is totally up to you and your team. Keep track of your conversions by including meaningful calls to action. Make people interested and gently guide them towards your established goal. Also, make sure that, in case you are planning on increasing sales, the client finds it extremely easy to buy your service or product. Do not become your own biggest impediment!

Also, post-sale behaviors are important once your marketing campaign has reached its final goal.

  • Keep your customers close to you by allowing them to sign-up for your emailing list;
  • Encourage them to follow your social media channels and interact with your posts;
  • Don’t forget about recommendations for the people who have already purchased your services or products.

Assessing your campaign’s outcome

Once again you find yourself standing in front of one of the most important stages of your entire campaign process. The assessment period offers you results that you can analyze and establish where the campaign did well, where it did better than expected, and where it could do better.

Keep in mind that if your traffic has drastically increased after your campaign but this didn’t translate into sales, for example, it wasn’t a success. In case you were not looking to increase your revenue, such a big traffic increase can count as a success.

Analyzing your data

The analysis of your campaign’s data is mandatory once it has finished its course. The thing with data after a campaign is that it came as a result of it. Not only this but apart from representing a tangible result, it can also act as a guide for your future campaigns. Knowing where you could have improved and where you did well enough is the key to increasing your success.

Comparisons are not the devil

We know that everybody says that you shouldn’t compare your campaigns to anyone else’s and it is partially true. Every brand is different and what worked for them might not work for you and vice versa. However, it doesn’t hurt to make a little comparison once your campaign is done and look for details.

In fact, you shouldn’t even look at the content of other brands’ successful marketing campaigns but at the strategies they used. Take notes and learn from their process. Not all of their strategies will apply to your brand but those that will apply could certainly make a difference in the future. Also, make sure to ask each member of your team what they think about the outcome of the campaign. You are not alone in this.

Wrapping it up

Now that your marketing campaign has run its course, it’s time to have another meeting. Close the circle and discuss the outcome of the campaign. What could you have done differently and in what specific department? Why did your campaign fail or why did it succeed? Yes, it’s important to take a step back and analyze the reasons why your campaign did so well after you’re done celebrating. What kind of data did you obtain thanks to your efforts? What other tools could you use next time? Was there any useless effort that you can ignore next time? What extra step can be added for an even better outcome?

These types of questions make your business better in all areas, not only marketing-wise. As with any other thing, it’s important to ask the right questions if you want to get the right answers. So, as you can see, a good marketing campaign is not so much about staying relevant but about staying close to your audience. Being organic and warm will take you a lot further than being stiff and extra calculated. Your audience is made up of people, not robots. Always remember that!
